How to Build a Business Plan You'll Actually Use in 90 Days

The plan is easy to write while everyone is in the room. The hard part is making it useful three Tuesdays later.

Decide what matters this quarter

Start with the yearly direction, then choose what the team can realistically finish in the next 90 days. Give each person two or three priorities. If a new request comes in, you will have something concrete to compare it with.

Put names and dates on it

For each priority, write down who is responsible, what done looks like and when it is due. Add the first step while everyone still remembers the conversation.

Check it in the weekly meeting

Look at the numbers, ask what is off track and decide what happens next. Update the plan when something changes. A plan nobody opens until the end of the quarter is just a record of what people hoped would happen.

Make the next quarter easier

After 90 days, keep what worked, close what is finished and decide what carries forward. The quarterly plan should move the annual plan along, not become a separate list of ideas.

We run this in a half-day planning session and put the result inside Next 12, where the team can use it during the week. See how the session works.
